Ancient ETRUSCAN Jewelry at MET Museum

Going on with antique jewelry, some of the pieces that greatly amaze me are, without doubt, the Etruscan. Their exquisite design and confection leave your mouth wide open.

The Etruscan have the most astonishing examples of granulation, a technique consisting in soldering small metal granules to a metal sheet for decoration purposes.
They mastered this technique so well that even with a 100x magnifier it isn't possible to see soldering remains between the metal sheet and the granule! it looks like it is simply resting, nevertheless 2600 years old pieces prove that the joint is perfectly resistant!

It took centuries until scientists finally discovered the Etruscan granulation secret: coloidal soldering, a process in which by using organic glue, copper salts, and very precise temperature (without any extra soldering metal), a clean joint is achieved between the metal sheet and the granule.

Some granules were laid out in geometric patterns. Some other, the smaller ones (0,2mm!), were applied in "pulviscolo", giving a matte texture in certain zones of the jewels.

The Etruscan jewelry simply take your breath away, their pieces are so beautiful; I hope one day I can visit Rome again and have the opportunity to go to the National Etruscan Museum, so I can see more of the work of these extremely talented goldsmiths.

In the mean time, stay tuned because soon I'll be showing you the beautiful Prehispanic jewelry that I also saw at the MET.
